Being among the first 6 cities in Croatia, already in 2016 the City of Porec adopted the New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and by doing so it committed to increase its resilience by adapting to climate change.
The research conducted through the preparation of the Report on the current state of climate indicators for the area of the City of Poreč – Parenzo indicates the fact that in the area of the city of Poreč – Parenzo there is already significant warming, both annually and seasonally, and that precipitation shows a weak tendency all seasons except summer when a slight decrease in precipitation is observed. In the period until the end of the 21st century in the city we can expect that the occurrence of extreme weather events such as heat waves and storms accompanied by heavy rainfall will be more frequent and intense, while summers will be warmer and drier, and winters more humid. Particularly vulnerable sectors, extremely vulnerable to climate change are health, tourism, water supply and water quality, ecosystems and biodiversity, and spatial planning and coastal zone management.
The City of Poreč – Parenzo and the responsible City Administration have long been aware of the fact that climate change monitoring, solely in terms of taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, or CO2, must change, and part of the activities must focus on climate change adaptation. concrete measures whose implementation will result in a reduction of the risk of natural disasters and extreme weather events.
